Issyria, Sibyl of Dawn

Issyria is one of my personal favorite casters.  She is able to polish just about anything in the faction with her feat and has an excellent control debuff in blinding light.  Her spell list is basically all useful with a universal threat enhancer in Crusader's Call, an arm buff in Inviolable Resolve, the aforementioned blinding light, admonition, and a personal movement ability in velocity.  While she lacks any sort of personal damage most of our jacks can make solid use of ancillary attack.  My personal favorites are either colossal and the Banshee.

She is entirely capable of playing in pretty much all of our themes although Forges is usually going to lack the volume she wants.  Because most of Issyria's abilities are control wide she does an excellent job of buffing large quantities of models.  She is not overly survivable either so she typically wants to stay fairly far back behind her army.  At least one arc node is going to be typical for an Issyria list.

Spears of Scyrah [9]

This is a swarm list I ran fairly effectively for several months.  I opted to put Eiryss3 on the infiltrators over the spears to push more models up the table faster.  Going first with this list (which gets a bonus to the roll from the theme) allows it to put tremendous early pressure on the table with Crusader's call on a mass high speed, pathfinder, advanced deploy models.  I'm partial to running double chimeras because I like having a throw away arc node.  I also like having a spare non stealth medium base to momentum over key models.

If you wanted to break the mass stealth the infiltrators could be replaced with Nyss hunters for a similar list and the chimeras could either both be replaced by Hemera or keep one and replace the other with a Siren or other light.  I personally keep the Banshee because I love the momentum assassination threat but running double heavy nodes with a phoenix and Hemera is also an option.

This is my obligatory double halb double AFG list.  With desperate pace and crusader's call halbs have a massive threat ranges and with Issyria's feat are very dangerous.  True sight AFGs are also quite potent.  I opted to go with lights in the battle group.  The extra ranged attacks from the harpies are very nice for her feat and they don't make terrible ancillary targets with solid range if you can maintain the AFG buff and a nice bonus effect.

I said Issyria was versatile so the third list is also in a third different theme.  This is the first list I've put up with a colossal.  Her feat is nice for fishing for that crit effect as you get to pick which die is dropped rather than being forced to drop low.  The main gun is also a very strong ancillary choice.  The arc node is again a flexible choice.  I went with Hemera in this list but I can see running just a chimera on Issyria and putting something like a siren on the Scyir.  I'm not a huge fan of the jack marshal bonus but it is an option and this list has a couple ways to speed it up.

So I promise I don't just always play double AFG (it's just a most of the time thing ;))  This list is more about leveraging the Vyre lights in conjunction with early threat from halbs.  Issyria doesn't do much to solve pathfinder so that can be an issue for a list like this.  I like stormfall archers with Issyria as she is able to help rat fix for them and on feat turn more dice is more better.

I have a problem

Bonus post because I want to impress y'all with my content generation capabilities ☺(just kidding I just had another topic to write about) So like it says in the title...I have a problem.  I love Destors.  Love them.  I love the look of the unit as the models are great and every time I look at the card and always think these should do something right?  So on occasion I dust off my Destors and try to find a list for them that I think really works. The most recent time I read through the Destor card I noticed that the Dawnguard don't really have a defining rule.  Think something like how pretty much all the Banes have ghostly or Trenchers have tough.  I had the opportunity to mention this to Mr. Will Pagani and ask (somewhat jokingly) if Destors should have Wall of Steel like Invictors and Sentinels both do.  His response was along the lines of an argument could be made that Wall of Steel is a defining feature of Dawnguard but it would be quite the...
So in the post ATC discussions about Ret a lot of interesting points were brought up so I decided to sit down and attempt to do a write up of my thoughts regarding the current state Ret in a competitive sense. I should note that this might get a little long and my goal isn’t to stir up a big salt storm or anything. For some background I enjoy playing Ret even though I think it suffers from some substantial issues. There are a lot of elements of the faction that I enjoy and I am not shelving the faction or anything like that. I’m also going to try to focus my thoughts on the idea that a “competitive sense” means bringing Ret to a major event (team or solo) with a focus on making it to the second day with a serious idea of winning the overall event. I don’t intend to play down local events or anything but I think there is such a variance in local metas and individual skill levels that it makes sense to focus this discussion on being successful in the latter parts of bigger events wh...

I'm Back?

So it's been a couple of years since I've played but like many other players the broad scale update has me interested. The handful of games I've gotten in have definitely been enough to whet my appetite for more. I'm hoping to use this space to continue spotlighting specific models and combos as well as the occasional battle report.  It will probably take some time for a broad tournament meta to sort out with this level of changes and it will likely be shaken up again when the Orgoth faction is released so these might need updates relatively soon. I also just finished a local steamroller with the new and, in my opinion, dramatically improved Kaelyssa so I'll almost certainly be starting with some thoughts on her changes.
